처음 보자마자 한눈에 반해버린 기도문이에요.
로리카(Lorica)는 전쟁 중 보호를 위해 입는 흉갑을 의미하는 라틴어인데요. 로리카 기도(Lorica Prayer)는 흉갑 기도(Breastplate Prayer)라고 불리기도 해요. 하느님께 능력을 청하며 모든 악으로부터 몸과 영혼을 보호하기 위해 낭송하는 기도문입니다. 433년에 성 파트리치오가 작곡했어요. 성 파트리치오 축일은 3월 17일입니다.
성 파트리치오와 선교사들은 아일랜드 왕과 백성을 이교도에서 개종시키려는 임무를 수행하며 여행 중이었어요. 왕의 궁정으로 가던 도중 그들을 죽이려는 일당이 있다는 걸 알게 되자 그들은 하느님께 보호를 청하며 로리카 기도를 낭송했는데요. 신기하게도 잠복해있던 일당 눈에는 성 파트리치오와 선교사들이 사람이 아닌 사슴 무리로 보여 공격하지 않았대요. 하느님의 도우심으로 무사히 그 구간을 빠져나갈 수 있었던거죠. 이 기적 때문에 로리카 기도는 사슴의 외침(The Cry of the Deer)이라고도 알려져 있어요.
